| Obverse description | The obverse bears the Shi'a Kalima rendered in bold, raised Arabic script in the naskh style, filling the entire field of the flan. The inscription is divided by a horizontal line into two registers: the upper register contains the Shahada profession of faith, and the lower register names 'Ali as the wali (vicegerent) of God. The lettering is deeply struck and characteristic of Safavid hammered gold coinage, with individual characters interlocking across the field in the manner typical of the period. |
