| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field features a long cross extending to the beaded inner circle, with a fleur-de-lis or similar ornamental device in each of the four quadrants formed by the cross arms. The surrounding Latin legend, reading DNS ⸰ PROT⸰ VITE ⸰ ME ⸰ A` Q ⸰ TR`⸰, is an abbreviated devotional inscription invoking divine protection, derived from the Psalm phrase 'Dominus protector vitae meae'. The composition is typical of small hammered billon or silver fractions of the period. The strike is uneven, consistent with hand-hammered production methods of sixteenth-century German counts. The reverse design follows a common late medieval cross-and-ornament type used on small denomination coins throughout Lower Saxony. |
