Aanvullende informatie

Oldenburg's fractional copper coinage of the 1840s occupied an awkward administrative position — the Grand Duchy maintained its own monetary system even as German states were increasingly pressured toward currency harmonization under the Dresden Convention of 1838. Paul Frederick August had already navigated that convention, which established the Thaler as a common standard, yet Oldenburg continued issuing local fractions like this quarter Grote that had no clean equivalence in the new system. The Grote itself was a north German unit with medieval roots, stubbornly retained by smaller states long after neighboring issuers had abandoned it.
