Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, the enthroned Madonna and Child are depicted in Gothic style, the Virgin seated facing forward with the Christ Child on her lap. The municipal arms of Aachen — the imperial eagle — appear in the lower field beneath the figures. A continuous Latin legend in Gothic lettering encircles the design in the outer field, separated from the central motif by a beaded border.

Reverse description Within a beaded inner circle, an ornate Gothic cross with floriated terminals occupies the central field, its four angles containing the digits of the date 1498 divided between them. The cross arms are elaborately decorated in the late medieval style.
