Obverse description Central field displays the abbreviated name LVD in Gothic uncial lettering flanked by two heraldic shields: the upper shield bearing the arms of Valentinois and the lower shield displaying the arms of Poitiers. The composition of arms and inscription occupies the full inner field, enclosed within a plain inner circle. The surrounding legend, rendered in uncial script, reads the full comital title of Louis II of Poitiers. The coin is struck on an irregular flan typical of late medieval French feudal billon coinage.
