| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field depicts a crowned figure of Duke Charles II of Lorraine, shown facing or in three-quarter view, wearing ducal regalia and holding a sceptre or sword, rendered in the Gothic hammered style typical of late 14th- to early 15th-century Lotharingian coinage. The ducal arms or a shield may appear in the field alongside the figure. A beaded inner circle frames the central design. The circumferential legend in Gothic Latin reads KAROLUS DUX LOTHO, identifying the issuer as Charles, Duke of Lorraine. The flan is irregular, as is characteristic of hand-hammered medieval silver coinage. |
