Obverse lettering ✠ LVDOVICVS · COMES · DLOS
(Translation: Louis, Count of Loon.)
Reverse description Central device comprises an elaborate double-armed or patriarchal cross with crosslets at each terminal, set within a beaded inner circle. Four stylized trefoil or floral ornaments occupy the angles between the arms of the cross, lending the composition a decorative Gothic character. The surrounding circular Latin legend in uncial script reads MONETA NOVA HASSEL, attesting to the mint of Hasselt. The coin is enclosed by a beaded outer rim consistent with the hammered coinage of the region.
