Ferdinand II's reign over Catalonia began under considerable strain — the Principality had spent the previous decade in open revolt against his father John II, a civil war that ended only in 1472. Catalan coinage of the early Ferdinand period reflects a fragmented monetary administration still reasserting royal authority over local minting practices.
