Additional information

Ferdinand II's reign over Catalonia began under considerable strain — the Principality had spent the previous decade in open revolt against his father John II, a civil war that ended only in 1472. Catalan coinage of the early Ferdinand period reflects a fragmented monetary administration still reasserting royal authority over local minting practices. The "straight hair" distinction separates this from later die varieties and is the detail that anchors attribution to the earlier portion of his long reign.
