Obverse description Central field bears the rampant lion of Flanders within a plain inner circle, rendered in a bold late-medieval Gothic style with detailed mane and claws. The lion is depicted passant-rampant facing left, with a crowned head, set against a plain field. A beaded inner border frames the central device, with the surrounding legend in uncial Latin characters distributed evenly around the periphery. The overall strike is typical of hammered Flemish billon coinage, showing the characteristic irregular flan of the period.
