| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field depicts a rampant lion passant, the heraldic lion of Holland, rendered in medieval hammered style within a beaded inner circle. The lion faces left with stylized mane and raised forepaw, typical of early fifteenth-century Low Countries coinage. A crown surmounts the inner circle at the top of the design. The peripheral legend in Latin Gothic lettering reads GVILM` DX COM` HOL ZEL, identifying William as Duke and Count of Holland and Zeeland. The flan is irregular in shape, as characteristic of hand-struck medieval silver coinage. |
