The country name SIERRA LEONE arcs prominently above the map in large raised lettering, followed by the motto LAND OF IRON & DIAMONDS. Описание реверса	A bold, high-relief facing lion's head dominates the central field, depicted with an open mouth and flowing mane, rendered in a naturalistic sculptural style. The circular legend FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE arcs around the upper periphery. The dual dates 1961-1966 appear in the lower field, commemorating the fifth anniversary of Sierra Leone's independence. The border is decorated with a continuous beaded or reeded inner ring, consistent with the obverse.

Дополнительная информация	Sierra Leone gained independence from Britain on April 27, 1961, but the commemorative coinage marking that event came later, issued through the newly established Bank of Sierra Leone as the country built its independent financial institutions. The golde was a short-lived denomination — the Leone replaced it almost immediately as the country's primary currency unit, making the golde series a transitional artifact of the earliest post-colonial monetary reorganization rather than a functioning circulating series. Mintages for this issue were modest, produced primarily for collectors and presentation purposes rather than commerce.
