Reverse description A bold, high-relief facing lion's head dominates the central field, depicted with an open mouth and flowing mane, rendered in a naturalistic sculptural style. The circular legend FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE arcs around the upper periphery. The dual dates 1961-1966 appear in the lower field, commemorating the fifth anniversary of Sierra Leone's independence. The border is decorated with a continuous beaded or reeded inner ring, consistent with the obverse.
