Obverse description A large fleur-de-lis occupies the central field, rendered in the Florentine style characteristic of contemporary goldgulden coinage. The petals and foliage of the lily are boldly struck in high relief, flanked on either side by smaller decorative foliate elements. A beaded inner border frames the design, with the abbreviated Latin legend distributed around the periphery of the coin. The overall composition closely follows the Florentine florin prototype adopted by Rhenish ecclesiastical mints during the mid-fourteenth century.
