| Obverse description | The obverse features the Portuguese armillary sphere and coat of arms rendered in a stylised design at centre, surrounded by the legend REPÚBLICA PORTUGUESA arcing along the upper periphery. The denomination 1/4 euro is prominently displayed in the lower field in bold numerals, with the word 'euro' in smaller lettering below. Along the lower left field appear the engraver's signature H. Batista and the mint mark INCM, followed by the fineness and weight specifications AU 999‰ 1/20 OZ. The year of issue 2007 appears at the lower right.
