Beschrijving voorzijde A spiral arrangement of flags representing all Allied nations that participated in the D-Day landings by land, sea, and air forms the central motif of the obverse. The flags radiate outward in a dynamic, stylized composition occupying most of the field. Below the flag spiral, a row of five-pointed stars references the milestones of the Voie de la Liberté, marking the route of the American 3rd Army from the Normandy beaches through France to Luxembourg. The denomination '1/4 EURO' appears prominently in the field, accompanied by the French Republican monogram 'RF'. The upper legend reads '1944 DU D-DAY AU VE-DAY - 80ÈME ANNIVERSAIRE 1945'.

Aanvullende informatie

Issued to mark the 80th anniversary of the June 6, 1944 landings, this is one of several sector-specific pieces Monnaie de Paris released in 2024 under a coordinated D-Day commemorative program. Omaha was the bloodiest of the five Allied beaches that morning — American forces suffered roughly 2,000 casualties before the bluffs were secured. Nordic gold, an aluminum-bronze alloy developed in the 1990s, carries no actual gold content despite its name.
