Obverse description Draped and laureate bust of Louis XIV facing right, wearing a long curled wig and armor with a folded cravat visible at the shoulder. The effigy is rendered in high relief in the late baroque portrait style characteristic of the reign. The circular legend is incuse along the raised rim, interrupted at the top by the king's flowing laurel wreath. The field around the portrait is smooth, and the milled border frames the composition cleanly.
