Reverse description The royal arms of France — a plain shield semé-de-lis (three fleurs-de-lis arranged 2-1) — surmounted by an elaborate open royal crown with fleurs-de-lis and arched elements finely rendered in relief. The mint mark letter A appears at the base of the shield, flanked by stops. The circular legend, incorporating the date 1643, runs continuously around the periphery and is separated from the toothed milled border by a flat rim. The reverse displays attractive iridescent toning in the fields.
