Reverse description The crowned rampant lion of Hesse, depicted in profile facing left with right forepaw raised, tail curled over its back, set upon a decorative baseline. Above the lion, a princely crown surmounts the central device. The split date '17 52' appears flanking the lion at mid-field to the left and right, while the fractional denomination '1/4' is inscribed on the baseline below the lion. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner border with a milled outer rim.
