正面描述 Central field dominated by a large crowned interlaced cypher composed of two overlapping letters W forming the monogram of Archbishop Johann Ernst von Thun, surmounted by an archiepiscopal crown. The surrounding legend in Latin reads in abbreviated form along the coin's periphery, with beaded border encircling the entire design. The monogram is rendered in high relief with crisp detail characteristic of late 17th-century Salzburg coinage.

背面描述 Central field features a crowned interlaced monogram comprising the letters I and R intertwined, representing the archbishop's initials, surmounted by a princely crown with elaborate detailing. The circular Latin legend surrounds the device and is divided at the base by the Roman numeral date MDCIC. Two pellets serve as punctuation separators within the legend, and the entire design is enclosed within a beaded border consistent with the obverse.

附加信息

Johann Ernst von Thun und Hohenstein ruled Salzburg from 1687 until his death in 1709, presiding over one of the most architecturally ambitious periods in the prince-archbishopric's history — Fischer von Erlach was actively reshaping the city during these very years. The quarter ducat was the smallest practical gold denomination in the Habsburg monetary sphere, struck in quantities modest enough that survivorship is genuinely limited.

The Zöttl reference remains the authoritative catalog for Salzburg coinage; #2108 places this among a tightly sequenced run of fractional gold from Thun's reign.
