Obverse description Central field displays the interlaced script monogram 'FJ' of Duke Francis Josias of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, rendered in elaborate Baroque calligraphic style and set within an ornate foliate cartouche. The monogram is surmounted by a ducal crown of high relief. The mintmaster's initials 'G.H.E.' appear in the lower field beneath the cartouche, flanking the base of the design. The coin's milled edge is clearly visible, consistent with the small-module gold coinage of the period. No peripheral legend is present on this face.
