Aanvullende informatie

Christian Ludwig II ruled Mecklenburg-Schwerin from 1747 until his death in 1756, the same year this quarter ducat was struck — making it almost certainly a final-year issue of his reign. The duchy's gold coinage of this period was produced in very limited quantities, largely for presentation and ceremonial purposes rather than everyday commerce, which explains why survivors tend to appear in better preservation than the wear patterns of a circulating piece would suggest.

Kunzel's reference remains the authoritative catalog for Mecklenburg coinage, and the A/a designation here indicates a specific obverse-reverse die pairing within the type.
