Aanvullende informatie

Charles Frederick inherited the Duchy of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp in 1702 at age two, leaving the territory governed by regents through the period this coin was struck. By 1711 the duchy was under severe Swedish protection and deeply entangled in the Great Northern War, with Danish forces having occupied much of Schleswig the previous year. Small gold fractions like this quarter ducat were typically produced for presentation or ceremonial purposes rather than everyday commerce — the political situation made stable currency circulation across the duchy practically impossible.
