Reverse description A youthful Theodore Roosevelt is depicted on horseback, surveying the rugged landscape of the badlands near the Little Missouri River in what is now North Dakota. The design, executed by Joel Iskowitz and engraved by Phebe Hemphill, captures Roosevelt in a naturalistic, dynamic composition set against an open terrain. The legend THEODORE ROOSEVELT arcs across the upper field, with NORTH DAKOTA inscribed below the central device. The date 2016 and the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM appear in the lower portion of the reverse field.
