| Obverse description | Left-facing portrait bust of George Washington, first President of the United States (1789–1797), rendered in high relief in the proof striking tradition. The national motto IN GOD WE TRUST appears to the right of the effigy, while the inscription LIBERTY is positioned above in the upper field. The denomination QUARTER DOLLAR is inscribed along the lower rim, with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcing around the periphery. The mintmark S, denoting the San Francisco Mint, appears below the portrait. The design is based on John Flanagan's classic 1932 portrait. |
