| Obverse description | Left-facing draped bust effigy of George Washington, the first President of the United States, occupies the central field, based on John Flanagan's classic 1932 design as modified by William Cousins in 1999. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcs along the upper periphery, while QUARTER DOLLAR curves along the lower rim. LIBERTY appears to the left of the portrait and IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed in three lines to the right. The mint mark appears below IN GOD WE TRUST, and the designer's initials JF are incused below the truncation of the bust. |
