| Obverse description | Left-facing draped bust effigy of George Washington, the first President of the United States, rendered in high relief with finely detailed flowing hair tied at the nape with a ribbon. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcs along the upper periphery, while QUARTER DOLLAR runs along the lower rim. The inscription LIBERTY appears to the left of the portrait and IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed in three lines to the right of the bust. The San Francisco Mint mark S appears below the motto, and the engraver's initials JF are present at the base of the truncation. |
