| Reverse description | The reverse depicts the Statue of Liberty standing before a stylized outline of the state of New York, with a line tracing the course of the Hudson River and the Erie Canal route across the state map. The inscription NEW YORK arcs along the upper periphery, with the state's admission year 1788 below it, and the motto GATEWAY TO FREEDOM inscribed across the central field. Eleven stars, commemorating New York's status as the eleventh state to ratify the Constitution, are arranged in the design, while the date 2001 and the mintmaster initial AM appear in the lower field. The national motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is inscribed along the lower periphery. |
