Reverse description The reverse presents a commemorative design for the State of New Jersey, depicting General George Washington and members of the Colonial Army crossing the Delaware River, based on the celebrated 1851 painting by Emanuel Leutze. The state name NEW JERSEY arcs prominently along the upper periphery, flanked by the date of New Jersey's admission to the Union, 1787. The central legend CROSSROADS OF THE REVOLUTION encircles the lower portion of the scene, while the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and the coin's date 1999 appear in the lower field. The designer's initials AM are inscribed discretely within the design.
