| Obverse description | Left-facing draped bust of George Washington, the first President of the United States, rendered in high relief after John Flanagan's classic portrait design. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcs along the upper periphery, while QUARTER DOLLAR curves along the lower rim. The word LIBERTY appears to the left of the portrait, and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed in three lines to the right of the bust. The San Francisco Mint mark S is positioned below IN GOD WE TRUST, near the ribbon tying Washington's queue, with the engraver's initials JF visible at the base of the truncation. |
