Obverse description Left-facing draped bust of George Washington, modeled after Laura Gardin Fraser's classic portrait design, occupies the central field. The legend LIBERTY arcs along the upper rim, while the motto IN GOD WE TRUST appears in three lines to the left of the portrait. The date 2023 is positioned at the lower right, with the S mint mark of the San Francisco Mint immediately below. The engraver's initials LGF are incused at the base of Washington's neck truncation.

Reverse description A three-quarter facing bust of Jovita Idar, noted Mexican-American journalist, teacher, nurse, and civil rights activist, dominates the central field, her hair arranged in an upswept braided chignon. Her garment and the lower portion of the design are rendered entirely in typographic form, with words and phrases referencing her life and legacy — including JOVITA IDAR, MEXICAN AMERICAN RIGHTS, TEACHER, NURSE, EVOLUCIÓN, ASTREA, EL HERALDO CRISTIANO, LA CRUZ BLANCA, JOURNALIST, LA CRÓNICA, EL PROGRESO, and LA LIGA FEMENIL MEXICANISTA — woven organically into the composition. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA curves along the lower rim, with E PLURIBUS UNUM and QUARTER DOLLAR also incorporated among the typographic elements. The overall design, by John McGraw, employs a distinctive word-art style that visually communicates the breadth of Idar's contributions.
