| Obverse description | Left-facing draped bust effigy of George Washington, the first President of the United States, based on John Flanagan's classic 1932 design as modified by William Cousins. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcs along the upper rim, while LIBERTY appears to the left of the portrait and QUARTER DOLLAR curves along the lower rim. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed in three lines to the right of Washington's queue. The mint mark is struck below the motto, just above the lower legend. |
