| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse features the left-facing portrait bust of George Washington, first President of the United States (1789–1797), rendered in the style established by John Flanagan and modified for the America the Beautiful series. The national motto IN GOD WE TRUST appears in the left field, while the legend LIBERTY is inscribed above the portrait along the upper rim. The scene is framed by the inscriptions GREAT SAND DUNES above and COLORADO below along the rim, with the year 2014 and the national motto E PLURIBUS UNUM also present in the field. The park's name is presented in two lines within the design, and the composition conveys the unique juxtaposition of creek, dunes, and alpine terrain characteristic of this Colorado national park. |
