Glacier National Park was established in 1910, one year after the Antiquities Act had already set aside much of the surrounding land — the quarter's release a century later coincided roughly with that centennial. The America the Beautiful quarter program, authorized under the America's Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act of 2008, committed the Mint to five designs per year through 2021, making this one of the few federal coin programs explicitly legislated to span over a decade of continuous production.
The silver proof version was struck at San Francisco. Collector demand for the ATB silver proofs consistently outpaced the circulating clad issues, with the 2011 silver proof sets selling through their initial mintage allotments faster than several preceding years.
