The Glacier National Park quarter was the third of five America the Beautiful quarters released in 2011, part of the 56-coin program authorized by Congress in 2008 to run through 2021. Glacier sits on the U.S.-Canada border and shares a designation with Canada's Waterton Lakes National Park as the world's first International Peace Park, a status granted in 1932 — a distinction that influenced its selection for the program.
Philadelphia and Denver struck the circulation strikes; San Francisco handled the proofs. Combined mintage across both circulation facilities exceeded 175 million pieces.
