Beschrijving voorzijde Left-facing draped bust effigy of George Washington, based on the classic design by John Flanagan as updated by William Cousins. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcs along the upper periphery, while QUARTER DOLLAR curves along the lower border. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST appears in three lines to the right of Washington's neck, and the word LIBERTY is inscribed to the left, below the portrait. The mint mark appears beneath LIBERTY at the lower right of the field, with the engravers' initials JF and WC incused near the truncation.

Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse depicts a panoramic view of Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine during its annual Defenders Day celebration, evoking the historic bombardment of 1814 that inspired Francis Scott Key's Star-Spangled Banner. A spectacular fireworks display bursts above the fort, symbolizing 'the rockets' red glare' referenced in the national anthem and linking the scene to the fort's storied past. The fort's star-shaped ramparts and surrounding landscape are rendered in fine relief. The inscriptions FORT McHENRY and MARYLAND arc above and below the central design respectively, flanking the date 2013, with E PLURIBUS UNUM completing the legend. The engraver's initials JFM appear discreetly within the design.
