Part of the American Women Quarters Program authorized by Congress in 2022, this series was designed to run through 2025, issuing five reverses per year honoring women from U.S. history. Roosevelt's selection was perhaps the least surprising of the program — she remains one of the most publicly recognized figures ever to appear on a circulating U.S. coin who never held elected office. Her role in drafting the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights gave the Treasury a basis for selection that extended beyond domestic politics alone.
