| Obverse description | Left-facing draped bust of George Washington, the first President of the United States, rendered in high relief after the original design by John Flanagan and modified by William Cousins. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcs along the upper periphery, while QUARTER DOLLAR curves along the lower rim. The motto LIBERTY appears to the left of the portrait and IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed in the right field. The mint mark is positioned below IN GOD WE TRUST, to the right of Washington's queue ribbon. Designer initials JF and WC are incused at the base of the truncation. |
