Bombay Hook was established in 1937 after the federal government purchased the land using funds generated by the Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp Act of 1934 — the first major legislative attempt to fund wetlands conservation through waterfowl hunters directly. Delaware's entry in the America the Beautiful quarter program was the forty-second release in the series.
