| Obverse description | Left-facing draped bust effigy of George Washington, modeled after John Flanagan's classic design derived from the Houdon bust. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcs along the upper periphery, while QUARTER DOLLAR appears along the lower rim. The inscription LIBERTY is positioned to the left of the portrait, and IN GOD WE TRUST appears in three lines to the right of Washington's neck. The Philadelphia Mint mark P is struck below the motto, just above the truncation of the bust. The field is broad and mirror-like, befitting the large-format bullion format. |
