Aanvullende informatie

Block Island National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1973 on the northern tip of Block Island, a remnant of the last glacial advance that left behind the terminal moraine now forming much of the island's terrain. The refuge sits along the Atlantic Flyway, one of the major North American bird migration corridors, making it a critical stopover for hundreds of species each autumn. This quarter was issued as part of the America the Beautiful series, which Congress authorized in 2008 to run through 2021, ultimately producing 56 designs covering all fifty states, federal territories, and the District of Columbia.

Rhode Island's slot in the 2018 lineup was its first appearance in the series.
