Reverse description The reverse design, engraved by John Mercanti, celebrates Arkansas statehood through a richly detailed allegorical composition. At center, a large faceted diamond rises prominently above a landscape evoking Crater of Diamonds State Park, the only public diamond-bearing site in the world. A mallard duck in full flight sweeps across the right portion of the field, representing Arkansas's role as a premier waterfowl habitat, while stalks of rice and a loblolly pine branch flank the left side, symbolizing the state's agricultural and natural heritage. The state name ARKANSAS and the statehood year 1836 are inscribed along the upper periphery, with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and the mint year 2003 appearing in the lower exergual area. The engraver's initials JM are incised in the lower right field.
