| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse depicts a panoramic scene celebrating the natural heritage of Arizona, the 48th state admitted to the Union in 1912. A dramatic rendering of the Grand Canyon occupies the central field, with a rising sun casting rays above the canyon's layered geological formations. A tall saguaro cactus stands prominently to the right of the canyon, flanked by desert scrub and additional cacti in the middle ground. In the foreground, a flowering saguaro blossom and clusters of prickly pear cacti are rendered in fine relief. The state name ARIZONA and the year of statehood 1912 appear above the central design, a scroll bearing the inscription GRAND CANYON STATE is superimposed across the canyon, and the date 2008 and motto E PLURIBUS UNUM are engraved along the lower rim, with the engraver's initials JFM visible in the lower right field. |
