| Obverse description | Left-facing bust of President George Washington, modeled after the 1786 Houdon portrait bust, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair tied in a queue at the nape. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcs along the upper border, while QUARTER DOLLAR curves along the lower border. LIBERTY appears to the left of the effigy and IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed in three lines to the right of the portrait. The Philadelphia Mint mark P is visible below the motto, and the designer's initials JF appear beneath the truncation of the bust. |
