Obverse description Full-length figure of Liberty in classical attire standing facing right within a gateway, her head turned to look back over her left shoulder, right breast exposed, bearing a large heraldic shield in her left hand and an olive branch in her right hand as a symbol of peace. Thirteen six-pointed stars are arranged in two groups flanking the central design. The legend LIBERTY appears in the upper field, the motto IN GOD WE TRVST to the right, the date below, and the designer's initial M incused at the base of the design.
