Reverse description Full-colour reproduction of Johannes Vermeer's celebrated Dutch Golden Age painting 'Girl with a Pearl Earring' (c. 1665), rendered across the entire rectangular field of the coin by colour printing over a dark, almost black ground. The subject is depicted in a three-quarter rear-facing pose, her gaze directed back toward the viewer over her left shoulder. She wears a two-toned blue-and-yellow turban headpiece, a golden-ochre garment with a white collar, and a single lustrous teardrop pearl earring suspended from her left ear. The composition faithfully replicates the chiaroscuro lighting and intimate character of the original oil painting held in the Mauritshuis, The Hague. No legend or inscription appears on the reverse.
