| 正面描述 | Draped bust of Liberty facing right, her flowing hair loosely tied with a ribbon, occupying the central field in the style engraved by Robert Scot after a Gilbert Stuart portrait. The legend LIBERTY arcs along the upper periphery, while the date 1796 appears in the lower exergual area. Fifteen six-pointed stars, representing the states of the Union at the time of issue, are arranged around the periphery — eight to the left and seven to the right of the bust. The entire design is contained within a plain inner border and the reeded outer edge. |

| 附加信息 |
Only 6,146 quarters were struck in 1796 — the first year the denomination was produced at all — and then the Mint abandoned the quarter entirely for four years. No quarters were issued again until 1804. The interruption had nothing to do with demand; it reflected the Mint's chronic shortage of bullion and its legal obligation to prioritize deposits from private citizens, which meant production schedules lurched unpredictably from one metal to the next.
Every known example shares a single obverse die.
