| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of Liberty facing right, wearing a laurel wreath tied with a ribbon at the nape, with the word LIBERTY inscribed on a headband above the brow. Thirteen six-pointed stars flank the effigy in two groups along the coin's periphery, six to the left and seven to the right. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST arcs along the upper legend, and the date appears in the lower exergue. The design is enclosed by a beaded border, engraved in the neoclassical style by Chief Engraver Charles E. Barber. |
