The inscription comprises the Shahada followed by the Shi'a addition acknowledging 'Ali as the friend of Allah, presented in a compact Kufic or early Naskhi script typical of Fatimid gold coinage. No figurative imagery is present, consistent with Islamic aniconic tradition. The flan is irregular in outline, reflecting hand-hammered production, with the legends slightly off-centre as commonly seen on Fatimid quarter dinars of this period. |
