Pattern issues from the Central Bank of Jordan in the mid-1990s were produced as internal proposals during a period when Jordan was actively restructuring its subsidiary coinage following the peace treaty with Israel signed in October 1994. The KM#Pn17 designation confirms this piece never advanced to circulation — patterns of this type were typically submitted to the board for approval and, if rejected, melted or retained in small quantities by the central bank.
Nickel brass was under consideration as a cost-effective alternative to the cupro-nickel then in use. Very few examples are documented outside institutional holdings.
